Digital Transformation at the Brazilian National Data Repository (NDR) #digitaltransformation #nationaldatarepository #acquiredata #E&P #regulating (Room Salon A-D)

This paper describes the digital transformation that the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel (ANP) is going through lately. ANP is the regulating organization for the activities within the oil, natural gas and biofuels industry in Brazil and also runs the national policy for the sector, focusing on the assurance of fuel supply and the interests of consumers, “from well to wheel”. In May of 2000 the Exploration and Production’s Database (BDEP) was opened, which is the National Data Repository (NDR), and since then it receives all E&P data in Brazil including data acquired by services company. This includes seismic, well and other data types from Brazilian sedimentary basins and adds up to around five petabytes, making BDEP one of the largest NDR in the world.
The growth of oil and gas industry in Brazil has increased the amount of data in recent years. So to optimize public data availability, one of BDEP’s main roles, ANP is investing in new data management technologies to make BDEP up to the challenge, simplifying data receiving and delivery and making data compliance check, analyses and processing better each day.
Regarding digital transformation, BDEP will undergo a number of infrastructural changes, starting with the acquisition of a high capacity storage with automated tape library. This will decrease public and entitled data’s unload and delivery time compared to today, especially pre-stack seismic data. In addition to the infrastructure ANP is also changing regulation (resolutions, normative instructions), like making it possible for non-Brazilian companies, students, etc. to acquire public data. All data purchase values and students’ quota are also being updated, making a larger volume of data available for a lower price. Regulation updates will also allow BDEP to use a cloud service to make public data available and being delivered online to users anywhere.
All these changes from infrastructure to regulation will allow Brazilian NDR do reduce costs with physical storage, personal assistance and other internal costs fulfilling its role in promoting the Brazilian energy policy working to attract new investments that will help to create new jobs, generate income and development to the country.
