129 - Are Your Contractors Working Safely? (Room 32A)

We all want our contractors to work safely. We go through great pains to create a selection process to ensure we hire safe contractors. We hold pre-job safety meetings to communicate our expectations. However, once the work begins, the safety process often devolves into an inefficient enforcement approach that typically enacts quick fixes (at best) and fails to implement long-term solutions. Once the job or project ends, so does the institutional knowledge of safety performance beyond injury rates. In this workshop, we’ll discuss a methodology that uses leading indicators that can be used proactively and historically to ensure quality contractor evaluation.
