4:30 PM - 5:45 PM

Tracks: Speaker

This talk explores the deep history of conspiracy theories found in the U.S. and other countries, including ancient China and the Soviet Union. The difference between conspiracy theories and actual conspiracies will be examined before turning to the long history of conspiracy theories and actual conspiracies in American, including the anti-Masonic conspiracy, anti-Catholic conspiracies, and anti-Jewish conspiracies. Actual conspiracies, such as the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, will be discussed. The lecture will conclude by looking at why people are given to conspiracy theories.
