Religions, like cultures, contain meaningful differences. For example, some religions see thoughts as morally relevant, but others don’t. While some might worry that demonstrating religious differences might make it harder for us to get along, more recent work shows that people trust members of other religions as much as they do members of their own and that greater religiosity promotes trust – even on the part of outgroup members. Then I will turn to my most recent work on religion and trust, showing that religious people are trusted more because they are perceived as having greater integrity and as being committed reproductive strategists. In all, I will show that religions are different, that we can all still get along, and what it is about religion that promotes trust. For more information email adamcohen@asu.edu.
