School board members have the responsibility of making many important decisions throughout the year. Some decisions are high-stakes with opposing opinions that bring strong emotions to the board table. Conflict is a natural part of productive school boards, but how the conflict is handled will affect the ability of the board to function as a supportive team. Effective school boards practice constructive ways to navigate through high-stakes issues. This session addresses a variety of methods to deal with difficult issues and will review techniques that can lead to constructive and collaborative ways to resolve conflicts.
