Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) does not try to predict the future but to create the future. With its partner RiVR, the focus is on producing virtual reality training in a photo-realistic room scale environment, giving a fully immersive training experience that accelerates learning and creates muscle memory. This project from the United Kingdom has generated interest from all over the world. LFRS is accredited as the National Fire Chief Council lead for advice, planning, help, and guidance on virtual reality. Imagine being able to train in the most dangerous environments that we never trained in before because of risks to personnel and the environment. This is possible in the virtual world. If something goes wrong, the instructor carries out a debrief and then presses the reset button so the firefighters, officers, and operational staff can go through the scenario again and again until the procedure is completely understood and embedded in trainees’ memory, accelerating the learning process, leading to muscle memory and quick and competent training.
