Heavy Vehicle Extrication

08 Apr 19
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Tracks: H.O.T. Evolution (Outside) 4 HOUR

The focus is on incidents involving heavy vehicles, including the types of extrication scenarios encountered and how vehicle design and construction affect operations. Learn to perform various techniques on heavy vehicles that may include semitrailers and larger vehicles, including rescue from side underrides, rollovers, and rear underrides. Students are introduced to rotating wreckers. Topics include advanced stabilization, street-smart cribbing, heavy truck extrication, underrides, tunneling, and wrecker-assist extrication. Students rotate among five stations involving rescue work: side underride, rear underride/override, lifting bus from car, cab extrication, and lifting a semitrailer using air bags and struts (a valuable skill when heavy wreckers are not available).
