With many new fish-friendly and environmental accommodations being placed in and around dams, it can often lead to dam safety fiascos. New overhead pipes, punching holes in dams for fish ladders, and new infrastructure often do not account for dam safety implications. The audience will have the opportunity to learn from recent lessons, avoid some pitfalls and learn how to advocate for dam safety early in the fish-passage design process.
