Between December 2015 and August 2018, the Federal Aviation Administration made several changes to the standards for marking obstructions deemed a hazard to air navigation. Most all modern wind turbines fall under the scope of these standards, and it's important for wind farm owners and developers to understand that regulations, and the recent changes that may impact how their turbines are marked. Among the changes that may affect wind farms are: - Standards for the marking of MET towers less than 200 feet AGL (Above Ground Level) have been added. - A new chapter has been added to provide performance standards for Aircraft Detection (RADAR) Lighting Systems. - New lighting and marking standards are provided to reduce the impact on migratory bird populations. All of these changes can have an impact on the cost of new wind farm construction, and even changes to the way existing turbines may be marked.
