e-POSTER: From Data to Action: Advanced Analytics Applied to Asset Management

21 May 19
3:00 PM - 3:25 PM

Tracks: Operations and Maintenance, Poster Presentations

In the comfort of their office, asset managers contemplate the smooth operation of their AI system that integrates operational, maintenance, short-term forecast and market data to optimize revenue streams. Coordinated work orders are being issued as part of an event management process, overall patterns and trends are continuously updated by the system’s ever-evolving AI, and technological upgrades are planned in an orderly manner based on standardized business-case analyses. At last, they have enough time for … job hunting? We are not there yet, although Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies predicts we might be there in 5 to 10 years. Based on utility-scale wind farm operational data, the presentation focuses on two specific uses of advanced analytics, namely the appraisal of upgrade packages and the prioritization of maintenance actions. In the former case, advanced analytics are presented as a means of achieving a sufficient level of precision to come up with reliable quantitative conclusions. In the latter case, advanced analytics are used to guide the operator towards corrective actions to maximizing the outcome. The case studies are based on actual assignments successfully completed using wind-specific advanced analytical tools and expertise, as opposed to blindly using hyper-inflated machine-learning tools. The presentation concludes with recent developments on translating operational data into work orders using advanced analytics.
