Tracks: Poster Presentations, Supply Chain Challenges and Solutions

A significant cost reduction in the OW sector is required in order to build a profitable sector for the future. In EU market monopiles are the dominate foundation type, due to the mature supply chain. For US OW market Jacket foundations are an conceivable foundation type since existing fabrication yards, technologies and knowledge can be utilized. To manage successfully OW Jacket projects with structures beyond 10 pieces, tight deadlines and huge cost pressure are to handle and it is therefore required to have a sustainable supply chain consisting . Jacket manufacturer in the EU are recently base they supply chain on pre-fabricated nodes and beveled standard tubes. Standard line pipe tubes offer a cost decline by 15-20% compared to a tailor made tube production based on 3roll bending procedure. In addition, higher dimensional accuracy of mass produced standard tubes leads to reductions in fitting and welding costs. On the other hand prefabricated nodes produced by means of automated welding procedures enabled Jacket manufacturer to reduce the manual welding work and allows the implementation of automated welding strategies, i.e. orbital welding, within the assembly process. This presentation will give an overview about robotic welding of nodes and the utilization of standard tubes for Jacket manufacturing based on US production facilities including benefits for production processes and cost saving potential for Jacket manufacturing.
