In the energy reports completed by UL, we seek to assess losses that are as specific as possible to the project under consideration. UL currently assesses power curve losses based on test data available for the turbines under consideration. However, new turbines often don’t have test data, so a default loss is assumed. UL is working with turbine manufacturers to characterize the method they use to predict power curves and verify that this process is used consistently for each new turbine model. Once this is achieved, we will be able to use historical test data to predict the performance of new turbines. This paper will give a status update on this process; present typical results for turbines and manufacturers assess so far, and look forward to the application of this method to other turbines and manufacturers.
