National KidWind Challenge - Open Tunnel Testing from 1:00 - 5:00 pm

The KidWind Challenge is a hands-on, day-long, wind energy innovation competition aimed at engaging 4th through 12th grade students and educators in meaningful exploration of wind technologies and careers.

To participate in the KidWind Challenge, student teams work with educators to design and construct small wind turbines. They then bring these structures to a local event to test them in 4-foot tall wind tunnels that mimic real world wind conditions. Teams also present their design process to a panel of expert judges, explaining their design choices and addressing questions posed by the panel. In addition to the design, construction, and testing components of the KidWind Challenge, teams must also demonstrate their contextual knowledge of wind energy by participating in two “instant challenges” that gauge their on-the-spot teamwork and problem-solving skills as they collaboratively respond to a wind energy task in real time.
