At present about 200.000 m2 p.a. of electrochromic glazing are sold worldwide, but the market share is growing. While only three or four companies are active in this business and the technical hurdles are quite high for newcomers demanding complex know-how in glass manufacturing, physics and chemistry of thin films, large area coatings and electronics. The presentation will focus on the basic design elements for electrochromic glazing and some essentials of large area coatings. Examples of glass facades, roofs and winter gardens fitted with the electrochromic glazing ECONTROL are presented to highlight the product properties of the new type of solar control glazing.
