Tracks: Heuréka! Post-Deadline Recent Developments

Thin film photovoltaics still remain in a market niche. Throughout the last years it could maintain and strengthen its cost competitiveness. The tremendous cost pressure to module manufacturer is leading equipment manufacturer to faster process cycles for heating up, deposition and cooling down. To gain best performances in contact- and absorber layers very precise heating and finally cooling processes are required to achieve an optimum of electrical and optical properties in the photovoltaic cell (e.g. resistivity, optical density of a back contact layer). Process temperature regimes close to glass softening point and even above require transport systems that can process glass substrates up to 100 inch coating width and more. Resulting from the tremendous cost pressure the presentation will discuss the challenges of how to achieve ultra fast and high temperature homogeneity by different heating principles, specific chamber designs, transport systems solutions etc.
