N4A Concurrent General Sessions: Success With Less (Room Salon 7)

Despite being limited in financial resources, practitioners at Limited Resource Institutions, including that of Historically Black Colleges and Universities are equipped to meet the needs of our student-athletes; in addition to meeting all requirements set forth by our respective universities, conference offices and the NCAA. This presentation will explore four areas of importance: the recruiting/hiring process, campus collaborations, “extra duties as assigned”. We will also explore the historical highs and lows these institutions experienced as a result of Academic Progress Rate.

Participants of this session will leave with a greater insight of the culture within LRI and HBCU athletic departments. We will discuss in detail the importance of being innovative and willingness to collaborate with campus constituents. It is our hope that the horrific myths of the LRI and HBCU experience will be dispelled.
