With NEMSIS Version 3 becoming the standard in today’s pre-hospital data collection arena new and improved documentation systems are at the forefront of our attention. This means that our methodologies for documentation training must change; spoon-feeding students, SOAP methods, CHART methods, and utilizing death-by-Power Point are now a dread from the past. This lecture will cover how one organization is setting a new standard for documentation expectations and training by embracing the new NEMSIS requirements and making training highly interactive through hands on experience in a simulation lab, teaching almost entirely without Power Point, and keeping the students engaged. We will address how we teach our first responders, EMT’s, and Paramedics to re-frame their mindset, views, and documentation practices to cope with and understand ICD-10 and NEMSIS requirements with ease.
