The Changing Roles of EMS in Combating Terrorism while Operating in Hostile Active Shooter/Terrorist Environments (Room National Harbor 3)

This eight-hour workshop will involve case studies and table top exercises, as well as have an interactive component with the participants and presenters, as the group thoroughly examines the changing roles of EMS delivery during active shooter or terrorist attacks are extremely challenging in our current culture. The implications of new ‘offensive’ roles to the EMS first responders and specifically, those essential safety requirements for each level of management are identified. For EMS responders working in terrorist/active shooter hostile environments, Emergency Medical Services, (EMS), best practices are incorporated to determine every level of job training accurately and delivered through more cost effective emergency management training programs, ultimately creating enhanced levels of safety for all involved. With this new integrated approach, also discussed, is how these cutting–edge practices and procedures are applied while operating in ‘Terrorist induced Hostile Environments’, which can also enhance the roles and relations of Labor and Management.
