A7 | Emergency Preparedness for Students With Disabilities: Reducing Liability and Best Practice Solutions (Room Sun B)

Nearly every school has developed and implemented a plan to respond in emergency and crisis situations. Many such plans, however, fall short in addressing the complex and varied needs of students with disabilities. Emergency planning for students with disabilities should be individualized and may need to consider students' mobility limitations, access to medications, communication needs, and effective techniques for responding to student conduct during a stressful and anxiety-provoking situation. Dr. Laura Sharp and attorney William Zee will provide a comprehensive and practical overview of emergency preparedness – from the legal requirements that could give rise to liability to best practice solutions you can implement in your district.
