B3 | What’s Trending in Emotional Disturbance Identification? (Room Sun C)

Presented jointly by school psychologist Jessica Dirsmith and school attorney Rebecca Heaton-Hall, this session will discuss collaborating to promote student well-being through intervention, prevention, best practices in assessment and identification of students with emotional and behavioral needs, and legally defensible practices. The presenters will analyze national case law trends and operationalize interpretation of the five ED characteristics and elements of the federal definition. They will discuss legally defensible assessment and identification practices and review specific assessment methods and instruments with a focus on economic, cultural, language, and gender considerations.
