Directed energy (DE) capabilities, including high-energy lasers and high-power microwaves, can deny, disrupt, degrade, or destroy adversary and friendly weapon systems, facilities, and equipment, and can create reversible and non-reversible effects on personnel. DE capabilities are rapidly maturing and will be integrated into EMSO in the near term. As DE weapons are fielded by allied forces, we must be aware and account for their fielding by adversary forces and build the appropriate electronic protection (EP) capabilities into our systems.
