WiFi That Satisfies: Penultimate Access Points That Dynamically Self-Adapt (Room B406)

WiFi is the bedrock of in-home Internet connectivity, with a stream of IEEE extensions that enable the development of “uber-Access Points” that can direct WiFi clients to move along any signal path, report on hidden APs, better report their telemetry, and, with the introduction of 802.11ax, help with client battery life. Add on data mining and machine learning, and the recent standardization of the WFA Multi-Access Protocol, which allows for different vendor APs to communicate in a common language, and voila: The penultimate toolbox for service provider-managed WiFi services, just in time for the migration from QAM video to WiFi-delivered IP video. That’s the gist of the front part of this session, from ARRIS’s Nav Kannan. Technicolor’s Jos Delbar widens the WiFi discussion to 4K video, and how to best serve it up without creating the impression that other online services and apps need to sacrifice their connections. The secret sauce is in dynamic, self-adapting home networks, where all services blend seamlessly. The presentation covers the four capabilities needed to monitor and guarantee 4K OTT content delivery.
