IZ01 | Deciding to Engage in Healthy Behaviors: The Missing Key for Improving Overall Health (Room Innovation Zone (Expo Booth #722))

24 Apr 19
10:40 AM - 11:00 AM

Evidence shows that healthy behaviors, such as improving and maintaining oral health, can positively contribute to improved overall health. Easy access to care and education on the importance of healthy behaviors are critical to better outcomes and are essential to encouraging positive choices. However, no amount of access to care and education will help if a person simply is not ready, willing and able to change. This presentation investigates the connection of oral health to overall health. It also highlights how individual patterns, beliefs and values drive one’s ability to decide and implement change to maintain good health behaviors. We’ll explore the five stages of change theory that contribute to intentional behavioral choices and talk about potential metrics that could be used to evaluate a person’s readiness to change and self-efficacy.
