With the use of volatile chemicals for roadside spraying operations, the risk of off-target applications is a significant concern. Badly timed applications can result in costly public health, operations and legal issues. Surface temperature inversions can suspend chemical droplets in the air, which can then drift off course as conditions change, potentially damaging neighboring trees and lawns. Spraying operations cannot be conducted during high wind or precipitation events. In order to plan ahead for safe spraying, DTN’s new Spray Outlook tool within WeatherSentry combines real-time weather forecasts with user customized parameters to determine the best time windows for spray operations, resulting in cost savings and more effective applications.
