The Marine Corps League’s membership of over 60,000 is comprised of active duty, reserve, honorably discharged, and retired Marines. The National organization consists of 49 department, or state entities, which coordinate the activities of over 1,000 community-based detachments. The League is classified as a veteran’s/military service organization and was formed for the purpose of promoting the interests of the U.S. Marine Corps. League members participate in the Veteran’s Administration Voluntary Service Program, an assistance program for hospitalized veterans; and the National Service Program, which provides outreach to veterans on issues and benefits aligned to their period of military service. The League also awards scholarships; sponsors the Young Marines of the Marine Corps League and a National Youth Physical Fitness Program; provides membership incentives; participates in patriotic functions; and provides representation to the U.S. Congress on matters which promote the interests of the U.S. Marine Corps, veterans and their families, and national security.
