The Artist Sets Her Own Pace (Room Lakeside Ballroom)

09 May 19
9:00 AM - 9:45 AM

We’re on the verge of a burnout epidemic. Almost 50% of Americans say that they are regularly exhausted from work. Technology has taught us to work in a way that’s unsustainable. We’ve become so attached to our devices, that we now treat our minds and our bodies like computers — expecting them to operate continuously, without stop. As a result, we’re running our bodies into the ground, and we’re compromising our creativity.

Drawing on material from her podcast Hurry Slowly and her new online course RESET, writer Jocelyn K. Glei will talk about how we can begin to recalibrate the way we work before it’s too late. She’ll break down why our obsession with a “more, better, faster” approach to work and life is killing our creativity, and share practices you can use to begin to slow down, work more intentionally, and bring meaningful creative work back into your daily routine.

As she advocates for a more sustainable approach to productivity and creativity, she’ll touch on:

* how our obsession with “efficiency” is fundamentally at odds with producing great creative work
* why setting your own pace is THE most important part of a building healthy creative practice
* how you can open up more mental space for creative ideas to flow in

You’ll walk away with new questions to ask yourself about the way you approach your work, and a handful of experiments to try.
