The 2018 National Defense Strategy has shifted the US military's principle priorities to long-term strategic competition with Russia and China. As such, the Marine Corps must focus its efforts on deterring and defeating a peer adversary in a multi-domain contested environment. Using the Commandant's Planning Guidance as a guide for both warfighting and capability development, we will modernize our Corps by pursuing new technologies while divesting of legacy capabilities that do not meet future Marine Corps requirements. We will also emphasize naval integration and interoperability to build a Marine Corps that is trained and equipped for naval expeditionary warfare in contested maritime spaces in support of fleet operations.
