For too long the United States has operated with what seems like extreme levels of restraint when being challenged on the World’s stage with situations below armed conflict, often referred to as the Gray Zone. This “restraint” is well known, and touted as, weakness by our adversaries who posture their activities and actions to remain just below the armed conflict threshold where American superiority with precision strike will result in unacceptable losses. Intermediate Force Capabilities can provide our warfighters the ability to actively push back in the Gray Zone without being accused of unnecessarily escalating tensions and deny our adversaries the propaganda victories they enjoy today.
