The Role of Amphibious Warships in Near-Peer Maritime Superiority Contests (Room MDM Main Briefing Center)

We are a maritime nation, therefore it is critical to our national security that our naval ships and their Navy-Marine Corps team are available and in position around the global to respond to threats and to protect U.S. citizens. RADM Sam Perez (Ret.) will discuss the shift in strategic direction required for amphibious warships to support the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps fight to maintain maritime superiority during a time when growing operations and sustainment costs serve as a continuous threat for future shipbuilding. During the presentation, Perez will speak on specific factors, such as maintenance backlogs, procurement delays and current plans and assessments that are threatening amphibious warships role in enabling the Navy-Marine Corps team's ability to project a strong maritime force.
