W03 - The Code Interpretation Clinic (Room 215-216)

02 Nov 19
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
The code interpretation process of an authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) is often clouded in mystery in terms of what information is needed and in what format, the required response timeframe, and how strictly the AHJ will adhere to the code versus a “friendly” interpretation. AHJs and designers bring a wealth of experience, biases, past code experiences, and their own individual processes to each situation. This workshop and panel discussion will gather participants to understand what is required (information and format) to achieve a successful code interpretation. The goal of this workshop is to bring all the potential players together to discuss and debate why different opinions were rendered for the same request and allow attendees to explore the rationale for code decisions. Hosted by AIA-AAH
