Despite recent negative stereotypes, freestanding emergency departments (FSEDs) and micro-hospitals are getting a second look from many organizations and health systems as viable patient access point options. No longer are these facilities being launched overnight with a cookie-cutter approach. Market-specific customization, including purpose, access, and execution tailored to each community, are now critical considerations in the development of these facilities. In this session, clinical professionals responsible for the operation of these facilities will discuss the many challenges and changes affecting FSEDs and micro-hospitals, as well as how a new model for design aids in regulatory compliance and patient access strategies of providers.
