Tracks: Technology and Innovation

Patients of diverse backgrounds, languages, abilities, and ages often find themselves at healthcare facilities during the most critical and stressful moments of their lives. Having the ability to easily self-guide within a space supports their empowerment and healing. This session examines how the design of space can communicate critical information that enables navigation while remaining welcoming and soothing. Two recent case studies will outline the different types of visitors that hospitals receive within a typical day and show how, using research and technology tools, designers can best implement strategic design techniques for visitors that not only effectively communicates direction, but also engage them within the space.
