Tracks: Behavioral Health Practices

With the rise of autism diagnoses and sensory conditions, there is an increasing need for sensory friendly environments within clinical settings. The Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-New Brunswick embarked on a new emergency department renovation and expansion that incorporated ground-breaking pediatric and adult clinical sensory rooms where treatment and the sensory experience converge. In this session, this team will reflect on the journey for how a dedicated sensory experience led to the creation of one-of-a-kind sensory friendly treatment rooms within the Emergency Department. Post occupancy evaluations for both rooms will be utilized to evaluate the success, lessons learned, and impact of these rooms on the patient experience.
