Tracks: New Models and Methodologies

Forty years ago the perception most Americans had of hospital design probably came from a very limited number of sources: their local hospital and a couple of television programs such “Marcus Welby, MD” and “General Hospital.” Through the use of video clips and other imagery, this presentation will examine the evolution of the intersection of media versions of hospitals and popular culture, including aspects of power (between patients, physicians, and administration), greed and finance (how architecture reveals an attitude about money in medicine), and notions of the place of the hospital in modern America.
