E28 - Training Destinations: Simulation Spaces that Support Active Learning and Patient Safety (Room 225-227)

Tracks: Technology and Innovation

Hospital-based simulation centers can help reduce errors and increase patient safety by supporting active learning for the medical community. These settings range from simple exam rooms to specialty set-ups for senior faculty and specialty clinicians. Using the Center for Simulation and Innovative Education at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital as a case study, this session explores what active learning really means in a high-paced clinical environment. Creating spaces to educate healthcare providers, patient caregivers, and family members requires a mix of low and high technology, training in both qualitative and quantitative skills, and making program and design choices that will provide the most effective space when using hard-won capital construction funds.
