Clinical Perspectives
Healthcare organizations continue to assess whether centralizing or decentralizing services drives improved patient experience, efficient staffing, and operational throughput. Historically, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has decentralized patient check-in and phlebotomy services to serve their infusion and ambulatory specialties. A new ambulatory facility provided an opportunity to explore a different model, focused on reducing healthcare costs, improving the patient experience, and maximizing revenue-generating space. The shift to a centralized model was driven by a team who defined success strategies, performed evidence-based design research, and leveraged data to create a new model and space. Hear the outcomes, lessons learned, and next steps in the centralized services journey.
