Tracks: Clinical Perspectives

The integrated planning processes and design approach utilized when designing the new Maternity Hospital at the Mahama Refugee Camp in Rwanda, as well as the prototypical Asili Clinics in the Democratic Republic of Congo, helped this design team, client team, medical team, and patient representatives to co-create new and effective design solutions. These designs maximize medical efficiency while remaining meaningful to the community. The spaces are designed to bring a sense of dignity, safety, comfort, support, and joy to both the patients and the medical team. In turn, both patients and staff are reporting improved satisfaction and patient outcomes.
