Tracks: Lessons Learned

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on a city and destroyed the VA Medical Center in New Orleans. In 2016, just over 10 years later, the new replacement hospital opened to the delight of those it serves. Learn how successful design strategies to address Veteran patients’ challenges with hyper-vigilance, triggering stimuli, and complex care have been accomplished in a recent post-occupancy evaluation. This presentation shares insights and feedback from clinical staff, POE metrics, and observations illustrating what has achieved these goals, strategies that have stood the test of time, and lessons to take forward in delivering a stellar patient care environment.
