Rural healthcare facilities may undergo major renovations or replacements once every other generation. When that time comes, the challenge is knowing how to fund, plan, and design a modern facility with the programming and equipment to provide high-quality care in a rural context—and with enough flexibility to grow and adapt during the coming years. This session will describe the multiple roles rural hospitals fulfill, using design project examples and testimonial from a hospital president and CEO. It will explore ways to create a new facility that will achieve greater patient wellness, staff utilization and retention, and enhanced operational efficiency, for decades to come.
