Rajeev Gulati, Data I/O Corporation // Designing a single, secure device on the bench is one thing. Designing a secure device that can easily be provisioned with security credentials in high volume is quite another. The latter starts with a security-by-design approach that utilizes a modern workflow. This approach embeds roots of trust enabling the integration of security into all phases of a product’s life: design, prototype, production and deployment for a secure IoT device. What is a modern workflow, and how does it impact the design process of embedded firmware on a microcontroller and improve the transition to manufacturing? A modern workflow not only improves the embedded design process, but also incorporates the tool set and embedded process flow for a seamless transition from embedded design to first article and finally into production. With the addition of a cost-effective and scalable security provisioning methodology in manufacturing, these IoT devices may be produced securely anywhere in the world for OEMs of all size and volume.
