Virtualization and Customer Premises Equipment: The SDN-powered Device Landscape (Room 225-227)

This workshop will cover the landscape of virtualized customer premises equipment (CPE), including new in-home service delivery platforms that enable new features and services and the state of the state of software defined network (SDN) technology in set-tops, gateways, and other CPE. Additionally, this session will address memory architectures for gateways and how containerized applications can be used to add feature-based revenue streams for operators. It will explore service API models, concurrency models of service types, typical services like IoT, security, and non-traditional services like Wi-Fi motion. Also covered are the pros and cons of VMs, containerized models for router operating systems and applications, and the split between network functions and thicker gateway hosted services.
