S08 Creating Convergence: Creating Efficiency in Global Legal Operations (Room Palos Verdes 6)

In-house legal departments of global construction, industrial, energy, and oil and gas companies manage large-scale legal, health and safety, and insured risk on a worldwide basis.  As the volume, complexity and risk of work increases, managing global legal operations is becoming exceedingly difficult and often results in regionalization of legal management largely driven by local practices.  Companies spend enormous amounts of resources to maintain control of their legal operations and to maintain a unified corporate culture.  For this reason, corporate legal departments are increasingly looking for better ways to streamline global legal management, from the development of standardized agreements and safety programs, to managing cybersecurity and data protection laws, to leveraging global outside counsel to increase control.  This panel will focus on the ways in-house counsel at global companies can create "convergence" within their legal departments to simplify operations.

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss and identify the unique and increasingly complex legal challenges presented by global construction, industrial, energy and oil & gas operations.
  • Attendees will learn how to structure global legal management to streamline operations and to operate seamlessly across borders.
  • Attendees will better understand how to increase visibility and effectiveness of world-wide safety operations, data security and protection, and local legal representation.
