Tracks: Converged Systems for Smarter Communities

As utilities invest in grid modernization tools, the use of fiber optics is growing as utility communications needs increase for future use cases. More and more utilities are using fiber-optic networks for backhaul of critical data and information related to relay protection and so much more. If this data is not recorded properly there is risk of losing control of the investment, causing complications and money for the operations department. Therefore, the need for sophisticated GIS systems is growing.  In this session, attendees will learn tools to assist in the consideration of selecting and converting to a GIS database.  GIS is a huge industry and there are numerous vendors; therefore it is critical that utilities consider GIS projects as software applications with proper planning.  A GIS platform can be a great tool to manage a network, but it takes time to get it right. Attend this session to find out just how to do that.
