Modernizing Networks and Transforming Communities (Room 201A)

There is a drive across the utility industry to converge IT and OT networks and use a single network to reduce capital and operating expenses. Utilities are increasingly looking at fiber networks to modernize their systems to handle emerging bandwidth-intensive IT applications such as video surveillance, smart meter data, and broadband traffic.    This panel will discuss how utilities have started to modernize their networks with packet-optical substation backbone networks to handle converged OT/IT applications while building the foundation to support fiber to the premises (FTTP) applications which have transformed economic development, especially in rural communities.
