Network Synchronization -- Trends in the Utility Market Segment (Room 204)

Tracks: Telecom Options for Utility Operations

As utilities migrate to packet based services and IP/Ethernet transport including private LTE systems, they need to maintain network synchronization all across utility communications networks.  These networks are full of devices that either generate, distribute, or use time or frequency synchronization.  Some examples of issues that raise network synchronization implications include 1) hybrid network architecture created by the evolution to Ethernet based packet network devices; 2) wireless fronthaul/backhaul; 3) fixed wireless; 4) millimeter wave technology and 5) mitigating GPS vulnerabilities.  This session will review these and other issues, which are also part of a new technical whitepaper that is being written by the UTC IP Transition subcommittee.  This is a critical issue for all utilities and a session you can’t afford to miss.
