Idaho Power piloted a satellite transport system to replace its costly telephone company leased substation services. A business case was subsequently developed and approved given its under four-year payback. The project consists of constructing two earth stations, leasing satellite bandwidth, and installing VSAT terminals at 34 substations. The project is currently in design and this presentation will cover the details of the pilot, O&M savings, business case, and design / construction plans.
