Integrated above- and below-ground trackbed inspection data has proven valuable in planning long term and weekend undercutting projects on Amtrak’s Shore Line. In the inspection report provided to Amtrak, a selection of trackbed condition metrics and Work Order Recommendations (WORs) allowed Amtrak’s maintenance planners to easily sort through post-processed data and use the results to plan for various types of maintenance. In addition to maintenance planning data derived from a multifrequency ground penetrating radar (GPR) system coupled to a trackbed surface imaging system, a mobile terrestrial laser scanner also provided data that was used to determine close clearance locations prior to the start of maintenance work. This project demonstrated the flexible application of multisensor trackbed inspection data to meet the various demands of maintenance planning. *Missed this Session or want to view it again?
