Conservation Alliance Breakfast: 50 Years of Fighting for Wildness (Room Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center)

19 Jun 19
7:00 AM - 9:00 AM

Wilderness, Friends, and a Few Grizzlies: A presentation by author and activist Doug Peacock, followed by a reflection on The Conservation Alliance’s 30th Anniversary by outgoing Executive Director, John Sterling.

Doug Peacock is an American naturalist, outdoorsman, and author. He is best known for his book Grizzly Years: In Search of the American Wilderness, a memoir of his experiences spent alone in the wilderness observing grizzly bears. Peacock served as a Green Beret medic during the Vietnam War and, upon returning, felt so disillusioned with human society that he sought solace in the beauty of the wilderness. With little scientific background, his firsthand experience with bears brought him recognition as an expert in grizzly behavior. He was a friend of author Edward Abbey, and served as the model for the character George Hayduke in Abbey's famous novel The Monkey Wrench Gang.

After hosting 32 Breakfasts during his tenure at The Conservation Alliance, this is John Sterling's last event before he transitions out of his role as executive director later this year.  This is also a memorable year because it was 30 years ago that leaders in our industry founded The Conservation Alliance to protect our shared wild places.  We will reflect on our accomplishments, and turn our attention to the future of The Conservation Alliance by sharing exciting updates about the forthcoming evolution of our mission and vision.
