Successfully Integrating a CO2 Refrigeration System: A Henningsen Cold Storage Case Study

This case study session will explore the operation, and specifically the overall operating cost, of a 100,000 ft2 cold storage warehouse with a transcritical CO2 refrigeration system. The initial decision making process, where transcritical CO2 was compared with conventional ammonia, packaged freon, and other system types will be discussed; and then a comparison will be made to a completed system with a similar facility with a more conventional (and high efficient) recirculated ammonia system. Along with energy use, water and sewer usage, maintenance costs, and other costs related to refrigeration will be taken into account in order to develop a comparison of the overall cost of ownership.
