Our civilization is not as robust as we think – a host of dangers threaten the existence of our present society. Past civilizations have collapsed and left only scraps of their achievements and arts. The Doomsday Clock is currently at two minutes to midnight, the closest it has been since the height of the Cold War. If our civilization falls apart, we must preserve as much of our collective achievements in the arts and sciences so the descendants of the survivors need not reinvent the wheel or lose our greatest literature, music, drama, and art.
